Cromat and Friends

Jared Mancil - Magic the Gathering Writer

I love 5 color decks. I have ran several different version of Scion over the years, and with the recent addition of gods, felt that it was a good time to add a new build to the arsenal. I wanted to make use of gods and planeswalers, along with some other bonkers cards I never get to use in my 5c dragon builds. I have been asked why Cromat and not one of the other 5c guys, and I choose him because he is such a strong creature, and unlike Child of Alara, he doesnt destroy my planeswalkers if he dies. When it comes to the walkers I tried to go with ones that either generated tokes or created really good value. I also run some redundancy in this just to be sure to draw the ability.

  1. That really looks like fun!
However, considering that you are playing a lot of stuff that works well with tokens (Parallel Lives, Collective Blessing, Dictate of Heliod etc.), how about a different Commander? Sliver Queen would be perfect here, I think. Man, I love that card! 😉
Even though Cromat provides you with a different angle of attack.

    • [card]Sliver Queen[/card] is one of my all-time favorites as well. In fact, I will be rolling out my revamped 5 color EDH deck Tuesday night. I focus on the Blue/Green colors, a pinch of control, and a handful of my favorite slivers. If it works, I’ll be posting a decklist soon!

  2. I gave a lot of thought to running Sliver Queen, but all of Cromat’s activated abilities give him so much more value over SQ.
