It does what? Vol. 1

EDH Deck Tech - Voidmage HusherThere are so many cards in the MTG library. So. freaking. many. Coming from a research background I spend a great deal of time researching interactions and answers to problems that generate quality. The longer you play EDH the more you understand that cards need to have the ability to answer more than one threat at a given time. This is why cards like Cryptic Command are so strong. This series will highlight cards I have included in my various EDH decks that exemplify getting value out of a single card.

This weeks card is Voidmage Husher.

Stifle is good, very good, but putting that ability on a dude is amazing, and that dude having Flash is just snazzy. Oh you want to ultimate a planeswalker? How about a whole bunch of nope. Oh you want to activate Nevinyrral’s Disk? Nah I will keep my stuff. The best part about this card is “Whenever you play a spell, you may return Voidmage Husher to its owners hand.” Being able to counter an ability play a spell and counter another ability is amazing. It not only gives this card tons of re-usability, but also gives husher evasion from removal.

I run a copy in my mono-blue Kira, Great Glass-Spinner and in my Cromat gods and avatars deck. Really any deck with access to blue could and should run this.

  1. Dude, you made me lol with “How about a whole bunch of nope”.

Although Husher didn’t make the first cut in my Brago blink deck (for the lack of instant speed flicker effects), maybe I’ll give her a second look. She would double her value with cards like Cloudshift and things of that nature.

    1. Yeah Cloudshift, Flicker, Flickerform gets fun, and then there is the really depraved combination of Deadeye Navigator which is just disgusting for the whole board.
